What's in a Name?
The Whetstone Reservoir, in the Twentymile Park area of Routt County, was built by John A. Whetstone, owner of the 7N ranch, to assure a continuing supply of water for his waterwheel that powered his sawmill. In winter, many old coal haulers from the Pleasant Valley cut across the frozen reservoir on their way to the Chergo Mine as they carried coal to Steamboat.
