Sometimes, it doesn’t hurt when the owner’s kid is on the team.
But Bennett Gamber, son of Big Agnes partner and CEO Bill Gamber, wasn’t just pushing the family product to the University of Vermont Nordic Team he joined when he first arrived at college - he knew Big Agnes’ apparel would fit the club’s needs well.
Though lycra-bound when on the racecourse or when practicing, the UVM Nordic Skiing Club also needed warm, dependable team outerwear for in-between times and before getting to the starting line. That’s where Big Agnes came in.
“We started looking towards Big Agnes as it was suggested by one of our loved members, Bennett Gamber,” says Tova Brickley, a senior at UVM and a co-president of the club. “Bennett knew the integrity of the gear, and we have seen that integrity–we have not strayed since.”
The UVM Nordic Ski Club - a student-run, inclusive, competitive cross-country skiing group - strives to create a fun and driven atmosphere. “Our goal as a club is to provide the opportunity to continue, or begin, students' Nordic ski racing journeys in an accessible, fun way,” Brickley shares. And the club has turned to Big Agnes for their team apparel needs not only because the jackets provide necessary comfort while waiting for a race to begin - they have become part of the team kit, with the UVM Nordic patch stitched to each jacket over the right chest.
“We love to show up to a race styling in matching gear,” says Brickley.
The University of Vermont Nordic Club’s favorites cover a wide swath of Big Agnes apparel. That includes the men’s Barrows Jacket and Vest, and the women’s Larkspur Jacket and Vest; lightweight, packable, synthetic-down options that can double as either a comfortable outer layer or practice warm-up option. The club also uses the Wirehand Parka, a stout, multifunctional jacket with a blend of synthetic and natural down for optimal warmth.

These models have helped keep the club comfortable, and the team has been able to take advantage of the Big Agnes group sales program, geared toward outfitting collegiate teams, firefighting crews, summer camps, and everything in between. The program - and the price-point on Big Agnes apparel - has allowed the UVM Nordic club to outfit their crew for three years now.
“Because we are a student-run club, any and all team apparel comes from our own purchases. Big Agnes has helped us achieve this goal with their group offer. Hardy, warm and affordable down jackets from Big Agnes have been perfect–a great way to show camaraderie and team spirit as we attend our races or club events,” Brickley shares.
Big Agnes apparel is versatile and dependable - and finds a use in any winter setting. And for the University of Vermont Nordic Ski Club, these jackets have become part of the team.
